Greener steel, lighter shelves – SSAB highlights us in a new customer case
Together with our long-standing supplier Excellent, we are featured in a customer case from SSAB about SSAB Zero™. In the film and article, we talk about the collaboration around recycled steel and how material choices can contribute to more sustainable products.
Material choices that make a difference
SSAB Zero™ is a recycled steel manufactured with fossil-free energy and near-zero fossil CO₂ emissions. By combining the new material with an optimized design, we have been able to reduce the weight of our dropfront shelves by 35 percent, equivalent to a saving of approximately 21 tonnes of steel per year.

For a more sustainable future
In the film, Excellent also describes how the transition to SSAB Zero™ has worked in production and how the collaboration has made it possible to implement the change without compromising on quality or performance.
– As a supplier to System Edström, we play a key role in making these ideas work in practice. From a production perspective, SSAB Zero™ behaves just like conventional steel. That makes the transition very easy, says Hans Nohrlander, CEO at Excellent.
Reduced emissions through smarter design
– We immediately saw the potential in SSAB Zero™. It offers the same mechanical properties as traditional steel – but with significantly lower environmental impact, says Fredrik Lundvall.
By combining SSAB Zero™ with a new design, we are reducing CO₂ emissions by more than 65 tonnes per year. More information about how we work to make our van racking more sustainable can be found here.
For SSAB, we were an interesting partner to highlight precisely because we demonstrate that this type of material switch is not reserved for the very largest players. A company of our size taking this step can hopefully inspire many others in the industry to do the same.
